The condition of the car is a reflection of its cherished long-term ownership. Having been with its last custodian for 19 years, the interior in particular is a highlight, with the leather showing minimal ageing and the seat bolsters free of creases or wear marks. The exterior presents equally well, and the car drives with the transparency and balance that made the 996 such a landmark driver’s car.

The 3.4-litre variant is also considered more reliable than the later 3.6 fitted to the 996.2.
