Service History

1998 BMW Z3M Coupe
Estoril Blue
Black Leather with rare grey inserts
109,000 miles
Superb history – low ownership – fabulous condition
E36 M3 Evolution 3.2 S50B32 engine.

Returning to stock is this superb and unmodified example of the cult-classic BMW ‘Clownshoe’. One of just seven UK-supplied cars finished in Estoril Blue over Black Nappa leather with grey inserts, this 1998 Z3M Coupe has covered 109,000 miles from new, with only four previous owners. One of them was the founder of Munich Legends, who kept it as his personal car for the best part of a decade – provenance doesn’t come much finer.

This example comes with a full stamped service history and a substantial file of supporting documents. In 2025, it received extensive maintenance from BMW specialists Spartan Automotive, while Michelin Pilot Sports are fitted on all four corners.

Under the bonnet is BMW’s revered 3.2-litre S50B32 straight-six, the same engine found in the E36 M3 Evolution mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Revving to 7,400rpm, it delivers 321bhp and 258lb-ft of torque via a limited-slip differential to the rear wheels. Weighing as little as 1,420kg, the Z3M Coupe can still mix it with modern sportscars: Autocar clocked 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 155mph.

Originally born from a skunkworks project inside BMW M, the Coupe featured a stiffened chassis and a distinctive shooting brake silhouette, giving it noticeably more torsional rigidity than the Roadster. Combine that with near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution and you’ve got one of the most exciting and engaging M cars of its generation. There’s no traction control - this is a car that rewards smooth inputs and respect. That said, modern tyres have tempered its reputation as a handful, allowing the rich character and rewarding dynamics to shine through.

And then there’s the shape – part sports car, part compact GT. Surprisingly practical for something this focused, it offers just enough space to make it usable for longer trips, yet remains razor-sharp on a Sunday morning blast. In other words, a proper dual-purpose machine.

Presented in excellent, original condition, it’s a rare opportunity to acquire a modern M classic with strong provenance and enthusiast ownership.
